Outdoor Graduation Ceremony
Dear 2020 Graduate and Parents/Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you and all of your family members and friends healthy and safe during this unbelievable and historic pandemic event! I know that none of us could have predicted at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year that so many things in our daily lives would change as significantly as they have over the past couple of months. One glimmer of hope that I would like to share with you is the fact that we are planning to conduct an outdoor graduation ceremony on Sunday, July 12th, 2020 beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the football stadium on Biro Field.
Enclosed with this letter is the Danbury High School-Outdoor Graduation Plan along with the ten tickets that each graduate is allotted. Please understand, that this ceremony is completely voluntary and that no member of the Class of 2020 will be required to participate in this event. We have given a great deal of thought to this plan and have the approval of the Ottawa County Health Department.
I ask that you take a moment to read through the proposed outdoor graduation plan so that you are comfortable following the guidelines that we have established. If the graduate and the parents/guardians are ready to commit to reserving a spot in this proposed graduation plan, an email should be sent to Principal Joe Miller (millerj@danburyschools.org). The deadline to secure your graduation spot is Friday, July 3rd.

Class of 2020 Announcements
*Every senior is being honored on the digital sign in front of Imprint Logo. Imprint Logo is located at 250 South Bridge Rd. (St. Rt. 269) Lakeside, Marblehead, Ohio. A big thank you to Craig & Kellye Stephens (owners of Imprint Logo) for providing this courtesy to the “Class of 2020”.

*Every senior will have a congratulatory senior sign that will be displayed in front of the school/stadium sometime in the next 7-10 days. I will send out a schoology message to inform you when those signs are up for you to see them.

*We are using your senior group picture, which was taken by Lifetouch last October by the Lighthouse, and placing it on 2-3 billboards around the peninsula area. I will message you the exact locations when the billboards are finalized so that you can see them.

*We are currently organizing a senior graduation parade with assistance from the Danbury Township Police Department and the Lakeside-Marblehead Fire Department. This driving parade will take place on Sunday, May 17th beginning at 1:00 p.m. If students would like to participate, they should be in the school parking lot ready to go by 12:50 p.m. Students should decorate their vehicles for this drive around the peninsula, which will last approximately 20-30 minutes. Additional information will be sent out on schoology and through the senior remind app in the coming days.

*We will be posting “Senior Spotlights” on our school facebook page in the coming days. If you have not filled out the survey that was sent to you via schoology last week, please submit that survey ASAP (here: https://forms.gle/K2CCDsRSwbJccYs8A). The survey should only take a few minutes for you to complete and the information that you provide in the survey will be included in your “Senior Spotlight”.  

*We will be conducting an individualized graduation ceremony for all of our graduating seniors on Sunday, June 14th beginning at 2:00 p.m. All of the details pertaining to this graduation event will be coming to you in the mail in the coming weeks.

Re: Schooling Update

Laker Family:

On Monday, Governor DeWine announced that PK-12 school buildings will be closed to students for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  While this information is disappointing, this did not come as a surprise.  The Governor encourages our school, as well as the other school districts across the state, to continue their "amazing" remote instruction arrangements to finish out this school year.

With that being said, Danbury Local School District will continue with our online/remote learning plan through the end of this school year.  Teaching and learning will conclude on Thursday, May 21, 2020 (the originally scheduled last day of school).  

The Danbury Local Meal Service will continue through May 21st.

The last day of school for high school seniors will be Monday, May 11th. Our original commencement date of May 17th has been postponed with tentative dates set for June 14, July 12, and August 9, as we are looking at all possible options for our High School commencement ceremony.  We continue to be focused and determined to provide this opportunity for our students, their families, our staff, and community. Once the current restrictions are lifted, we will work in conjunction with state and local health, government, and educational  agencies to ensure we can hold a safe, in-person ceremony for the Class of 2020.  In addition, the senior scholarship/senior awards night program may also be celebrated as part of our commencement ceremony.

It is important that our students remain focused on their learning for our remaining school days.  The work students are completing will continue to count toward their 4th nine week and semester grades as well as fall athletic eligibility.  Our teachers will continue to work with students to make sure they have the essential skills they need to be successful moving forward. 

Due to schools closing for the remainder of the year, all sporting events are also cancelled for the remainder of the Spring. More information will be given at a later date as to when athletic practices, camps, and competition may resume. Until then, the school will remain closed to our teams. More information will also be given on the free physical night which takes place in the Summer as it becomes available.

There are still many details to process through as we think about commencement, collecting Chromebooks, cleaning out student desks and cubbies, Kindergarten round-up, fall sports, scheduling, instruction in the fall, and much more…. we will be sure to do our very best to keep all informed as decisions are made.  

Our staff continue to deliver a high-quality, creative, innovative, and personal approach of learning to our students each day.  Thank you to each of them for their commitment to our students and their learning.   To our custodial staff for their continual efforts in keeping our buildings clean, our incredible cafeteria staff for continuing to prepare meals for our students, our secretaries for their daily assistance with parents, phone calls, emails, and staff needs, and our administrators, working tirelessly, continuing to go above and beyond…. I couldn’t be more proud and honored to work alongside our Danbury team!

Meal Request Process
Starting with next week's student meal pick up on Monday, April 13th, please remember to fill out the survey by Thursday at 10:00a.m. for EACH student in your household every week. Each individual student will receive five (5) different breakfast and five (5) different lunch meals. Follow the link for the survey here: https://forms.gle/WZpU8hDiYuAdPmW5A
Meal pickup will  take place every Monday from 6-7pm located at the Athletic lobby doors!

Public Notice
Due to social distancing requirements and stay-at-home orders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Danbury Board of Education will transition to online meetings via Google Meet video conferencing.  This change will commence with the Special Session scheduled for Thursday, April 9th at 4:00pm.
In compliance with public meeting regulations and guidance from the State of Ohio, the public is welcome to view the live video stream  of these meetings.  A link to the live feed for each meeting will be posted on this page: https://bit.ly/DanburyBoEMeetings before the scheduled start of each meeting.  More details regarding access and technical support are available at the link as well.
The purpose of the April 9th meeting is for the board to approve the resolution around electronic meetings.  In addition, the board will discuss future potential commencement ceremony dates.
